The Southern Africa Research Capacity Network (SOFAR)

is a collaborative initiative aimed at developing skilled, innovative, and resilient African researchers to address significant health challenges, particularly infectious diseases. This program is designed to bridge training gaps and enhance research capacity across Africa, focusing on equitable partnerships and interdisciplinary research.

The overarching goal of the SOFAR program is to develop a cohort of researchers capable of reshaping the global health research landscape. The program aims to:

Promote Equity and Inclusion: By integrating values of equity, diversity, and inclusion into all aspects of the program, SOFAR seeks to create a more inclusive research culture.

Enhance Research Capacity: Through comprehensive training and mentorship, the program aims to build a critical mass of skilled researchers who can contribute significantly to infectious disease research and public health.

Foster Collaboration: SOFAR facilitates South-South and South-North collaborations, enhancing the research capabilities of African institutions and fostering international partnerships.
